This week we were introduced to the basics of graphic design. To be completely honest I didn’t know much about graphic design so I was eager to learn more about it. The neatest thing I learned was the principle of unequal spacing and visual agreement. I hadn’t heard of those terms until Tuesday in class. There are a lot of rules that go into graphic design and it seems more challenging than I originally thought. I am actually guilty of committing a design cliche...I like to place objects on a diagonal because it looks different. I didn’t know that this was actually a no no in the design world. I would like to be more familiar with everything in graphic design quite frankly. I know very little about it and I think learning more and mastering the skills within design would be a great skill set to have. I didn’t know that graphic design was used in the public relations world. I figured graphic design would fit better within advertising. However, after learning more about what graphic design is and how it can be utilized, I definitely see why it is used in public relations. Mastering graphic design will help me tremendously by providing me with more knowledge within my industry and will set me apart from others who are also pursuing a career in public relations.
